Vaccination is very important for frontline employees. As per the Indian government had stated that every individual hospital faculty should propel for having a vaccination.
As everyone is having the corona vaccination in the hospital like doctors, nurses and sanitary workers because they come in the direct exposure of patients. nursing students should also get vaccinated, as They receive all the vaccines in the previous years like hepatitis B.
Criteria of the Indian government is that the student's nurses should also get the vaccination before going for clinical duties.
As we completed one-year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the long anticipate vaccine is officially ready for distribution in India and started distributing to various health sectors. This record-breaking advancement in medicine has been the ray of hope. Even with these limitations, the first round of vaccinations is still not enough. Students in health care professions such as medical and nursing students have been included in the discussion to be amongst the group to receive the vaccine first. However, A big question arises that, with limited resources, Should health care students be among the health care workers who receive the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine?
“I’d rather not have my rights taken away like that"
The rights of the nursing student are talking about is whether or not to get the vaccine now.
No one from the Institute of Nursing would go on camera for this story. the mandate is for the safety of patients and staff at the hospital. However, the staff are not required to get the vaccine.
“I believe in vaccines and I know that they can help,” one random student said to me “Even those who work in the COVID unit of the hospital don’t have to get it.”
According to one of the Nursing college of USA “students who choose not to take the vaccine for any reason must withdraw from the course before classes start.”
Why Student Nurses should get corona vaccines?
It is a big NO if the college is going on without the vaccination of the students and the institute has been started their clinical duties.
Nursing University has been said that at the time of annual exams students must not have any of corona symptoms otherwise the students may have to give the exam with the supplementary students or next year.
If the university is not providing vaccines to the Nursing students before clinical duty. they should allow the corona positive students to write a final year exam without any further due.
It would be disastrous if the non-vaccinated student is doing clinical and they tested positive at final exam time. their whole year would be a waste.
- Nursing students and their families are at high risk for getting the virus. No family members are allowing their children to go for clinical duties without proper precautions and corona vaccines.
- The institute must make a separate area for the covid duty nurses who were doing duty in the covid area.
- Proper PPE (personal protective equipment) is not enough for student nurses. Because the hospital PPE stock is limited for the hospital employees only. Hence it is not possible to get PPE all the time for student Nurses. sometimes in rush, they take vitals without hand gloves. And this is the intense mistake every nurse does.
- It is impossible to use self PPE kits because students have given lots of money to the institute for their study. They can't afford sterile PPE daily. It is better than the institute should provide proper PPE if the vaccination is not possible.
Hence, In India even though the government has been permitted to give vaccination to those who are in contact with the patients. student's nurses should be vaccinated because of the high exposure of corona patients. The university should see whether the student nurses are having vaccination or not otherwise the government should stop the clinical duties.
