What is Teach back method ? 

and why it is important? 

not only in the Nursing Profession it is also important in other fields. Teach-back method is also known as "show me" method it is a process of confirmation of the topic which have already discussed and explained to the patient by nurses.

Teach-back method in nurses and patient are the the clarity of conversation between both.

It is a method which shows that how much the patient understand the process which is explained by nurses and the nurses make patient to explain them in their own words that how much they understood.

It is a process which is used in the medical field to ensure that the medicines or other techniques which are explained by nurses are clearly understood by the patients and their relatives.

 What are the  Importance of Teach-back method for Nurses ?

Teach back method is important for the nurses as well as the patients to check whether the topic is clear or not.

It is a technique of a clear communication between the nurses and patient.

To recheck the following instructions which you have given to the patient.

It is also helpful in the demonstration class where the teacher teach the  Nursing students and asking them to demonstrate in the dummy verbally explaining it same as the teacher taught. 

How the Nurses can use Teach-back method in Hospital ?

In each and every Hospital, The nurses should ask the patients after explaining the procedure that,

 "have you understood what I have dealt with"

 Instead of saying this the nurses should ask the patient that 

"can you explain in your own words whatever you understood."

With this technique the nurses will be a assured that the patient understood everything and there is no doubt in the patients mind.

Nurses should not ask the client to reply "yes or no". Nurses should allow the patient to explain the information in in open ended and closed ended form. so that the patient can easily explain you. 

Nurses should explain each and everything in a simple language so that patient will easily understood and Explain it easily to the nurse. for example: The nurses should use Non-medical words instead of  using Medical words, so that  patient will easily understand.

How Nurses do Communicate while Teach-Back ?

Nurses should always speak in a clear and precise word which is is easily understood by the patient and their family.

Nurses can also use diagrams to make more clear the topic.

Without maintaining interpersonal relationship with the patient it is not possible to allow the teach-back process with the patient so it is necessary to make or maintain the IPR with patient.

When the nurses talking with the older patients, always talk in a low pitch voice. and when talking with the children's should always use some phrases, Diagrams or videos.

Watch for the body posture at the time when the patient is explaining each and everything to the nurse. because body posture shows the confidence that how much the patient uderstand about it.

When a nurse should use Teach- Back ?

Usually teach-back is used in New diagnosis of the patient and when the nurses give any medication to the patient to explain it thoroughly.

What to do when  patient is not able to teach back ? 

If the patient is not able to teach-back the nurses should repeat the information and take help from their colleagues or from their family/relatives to teach them properly.
